Different Sauna Heaters... Propane/gas And
Electric
The most important element in your sauna is your sauna
heater. If you are trying to decide which
type of heater to use for your sauna then you have four options
to consider. These four basic options for your sauna heater
are: electric, wood burning, gas/propane and infrared. Wood and
fuel based are the traditional methods of sauna heaters.
The Finnish are the “authorities” on sauna culture as they
have diligently practiced the culture that saunas require for
centuries. Back in centuries past, the
Finnish used wood burning stoves to heat their saunas and today
wood burning stoves are still a traditional authentic Finnish
method to heat the stones for the sauna. However nostalgic it
may be to use wood, the issue of the smoke created by the
burning wood, even if vented, can be unpleasant.
At some point in the 1950's, when the electric sauna heater
was introduced into the market, saunas really began to become
popular throughout the world thanks to this new type of sauna
heater. An electric sauna heater is safe for any kind of use,
and the main advantages of this heater are that it heats a good
deal quicker than its wood burning predecessor, as well as
eliminating the unpleasant smoke generated by the traditional
heating ovens.
Natural gas or propane sauna heaters came into being about
the same time as the electric sauna heater. These heaters are
very well suited to larger saunas such as the ones used in
public spas since using a fuel based heater is more cost
effective in the long run if the sauna it is heating is used on
a long term basis. Propane or natural gas sauna heaters an
excellent option for commercial users and for those that
already use these fuel types to heat their home. It should also
be noted that these heaters are every bit as safe as their
electric cousins as they are manufactured with safety in mind,
not even allowing for even an accidental burn should someone be
near the heater. A simple solution for the ventilation of these
heaters is simply out the wall of the sauna, and all is
perfectly well.
We have now covered the basics of the different kinds of the
more traditional kinds of sauna heaters. Electric heaters are
truly brought convenience to those who want to enjoy a sauna;
however the gas and propane sauna heaters should not be
discounted in the least due to their own qualities of being
better suited for commercial use.
